Applying by phone
Hello, this is ___ speaking.
「はい、〇〇店でございます。」
How to answer in Japan
Say who you are and why you are calling, before anything else. The books say 拝見して, but 見て is fine and much easier to say. Call when the shop is not busy — 2–5pm for cafes and restaurants, 10–11am or 2–4pm for convenience stores.
⭕️ A good answer
お忙しいところ失礼します。求人を見て、お電話しました。ビカスと申します。アルバイトの募集は、まだしていますか。
Sorry to trouble you. I saw your job advertisement and I am calling about it. My name is Bikash. Are you still looking for part-time staff?
❌ Not enough
アルバイトしたいです。
“I want a part-time job.” You have not said who you are or where you saw the advertisement, so they cannot help you yet.
