Seikatsu no NihongoLiving in Japan
Do you have a points card? — asked at the register
「ポイントカードは、お持ちですか。」
How to answer in Japan
★In shops, 大丈夫です is often used to mean “no thanks” or “I don't have one”. But it can also sound like “yes, OK”, so until you are used to it, いいえ、ありません is the clearest. ★You can answer 袋はご利用ですか (do you need a bag?) the same way: いいえ、大丈夫です if you do not want one.
⭕️ A good answer
いいえ、ありません。
No, I don't.
❌ Not enough
はい。(「聞こえました」のつもりで言う。店員さんはカードが出てくるのを待ってしまう)
“Yes.” — meant as “I heard you”. The cashier will wait for you to take out a card.

Where this comes from
Every question here comes from an interview on video, from a published guide to applying and interviewing in Japan, or from teachers explaining Japanese interviews in Nepali. Where a question turns on an official rule, the official page is listed as well. These are the sources for this one.
