Train services are currently suspended. — an announcement at the station
「ただいま、運転を見合わせております。」
How to answer in Japan
★見合わせ does not mean “running late”. It means the trains have stopped, and no one knows yet when they will start again. Rather than waiting, ask the station staff for another way to get there. ★If you will be late for work or school, get a 遅延証明書 (delay certificate) and hand it in. These days it is usually issued on the railway company's website (Tokyo Metro has issued it on the web only since April 2026).
⭕️ A good answer
すみません、〇〇駅まで行きたいんですが、ほかの行き方はありますか。
Excuse me, I want to go to ___ Station. Is there another way to get there?
❌ Not enough
(「少し遅れているだけ」と思って、ホームで待ち続ける)
Waiting on the platform for a long time, thinking the train is only a little late.

Where this comes from
Every question here comes from an interview on video, from a published guide to applying and interviewing in Japan, or from teachers explaining Japanese interviews in Nepali. Where a question turns on an official rule, the official page is listed as well. These are the sources for this one.
