What kind of pain is it? — asked by the doctor

How to answer in Japan

★“It hurts” alone does not tell the doctor what kind of pain it is. In Japanese, you say the kind of pain with a sound word. For the stomach, キリキリ (a sharp pain, as if something is stabbing). For the head or a tooth, ズキズキ (a throbbing pain, like a pulse). ★Say three things and you will be understood: where, what kind, and since when. For example: お腹なかが痛いたいです。キリキリします。昨日きのうの夜よるからです。

⭕️ A good answer

It is a sharp pain. Since last night.

❌ Not enough

“It hurts.” The doctor already knows that. What they need to know is what kind of pain it is.

Where this comes from

Every question here comes from an interview on video, from a published guide to applying and interviewing in Japan, or from teachers explaining Japanese interviews in Nepali. Where a question turns on an official rule, the official page is listed as well. These are the sources for this one.
