昔々むかしむかし、あるところに、子こどものいないおじいさんとおばあさんがいました。
Long ago, in a certain place, there was an old man and an old woman who had no children.
二人ふたりは、神かみ様さまに、お願ねがいしました。
The two of them prayed to God.
「どうか、子こどもをください。
"Please, give us a child.
小ちいさくてもいいです。」

すると、小ちいさな小ちいさな男おとこの子こが生うまれました。

On the way, a big ogre appeared.
鬼おには、お姫ひめ様さまを、つかまえようとしました。
The ogre tried to catch the princess.
一寸法師いっすんぼうしは、針はりの刀かたなを抜ぬきました。
Issun-boshi drew his needle sword.
一寸法師いっすんぼうしは、鬼おにと戦たたかいました。
Issun-boshi fought the ogre.
鬼おには、一寸法師いっすんぼうしを、ぱくりと食たべました。
The ogre gobbled up Issun-boshi.
でも、一寸法師いっすんぼうしは、鬼おにのお腹なかの中なかを、針はりでちくちくとつつきました。
But Issun-boshi poked the inside of the ogre's stomach with his needle.
鬼おには、いたくなりました。
The ogre started to hurt.
鬼おには、一寸法師いっすんぼうしをはき出だしました。
The ogre spat Issun-boshi out.
そして、「まいった、まいった。」と言いいました。
And he said, "I give up, I give up."
鬼おには、逃にげていきました。
The ogre ran away.
鬼おには、小こづちを、落おとしました。
The ogre dropped a small mallet.
それは、魔法まほうの小こづちでした。
It was a magic mallet.
お姫ひめ様さまは、その小こづちを振ふりました。
The princess swung the mallet.
お姫ひめ様さまは、言いいました。
The princess said,
「一寸法師いっすんぼうし、大おおきくなれ。」
"Issun-boshi, grow bigger."
すると、一寸法師いっすんぼうしは、大おおきくなりました。
Then, Issun-boshi grew bigger.
一寸法師いっすんぼうしは、立派りっぱな若者わかものになりました。
Issun-boshi became a fine young man.
一寸法師いっすんぼうしとお姫ひめ様さまは、結婚けっこんしました。
Issun-boshi and the princess got married.
二人ふたりは、幸しあわせに暮くらしました。
