おじいさんは、山やまへ行いきます。

He cuts bamboo.
ある日ひ、光ひかる竹たけがありました。
One day, there was a shining bamboo stalk.
おじいさんは、その竹たけを切きりました。
The old man cut that bamboo.
中なかに、小ちいさい女おんなの子こがいました。
Inside, there was a tiny girl.
おじいさんは、女おんなの子こを家いえへつれてかえりました。
The old man took the girl home.
おばあさんは、とてもよろこびました。

かぐやひめは、「けっこんしません」と言いいました。
Kaguya-hime said, “I will not marry.”
ある夜よる、かぐやひめは、月つきを見みました。
One night, Kaguya-hime looked at the moon.
かぐやひめは、ないていました。
Kaguya-hime was crying.
おじいさんは、「どうしましたか」と聞ききました。
The old man asked, “What is wrong?”
かぐやひめは、「わたしは、月つきの人ひとです」と言いいました。
Kaguya-hime said, “I am a person of the moon.”
「わたしは、月つきへかえります。」
“I am going back to the moon.”
おじいさんとおばあさんは、とてもかなしみました。
The old man and the old woman were very sad.
おじいさんは、たくさんの人ひとをよびました。
The old man called many people.
その人ひとたちは、かぐやひめをまもります。
Those people guard Kaguya-hime.
つぎの夜よる、月つきから白しろい光ひかりが来きました。
The next night, a white light came from the moon.
月つきの人ひとが、家いえの前まえに来きました。
People of the moon came to the front of the house.
まもる人にんたちは、うごけませんでした。
The people guarding her could not move.
かぐやひめは、おじいさんに手紙てがみをわたしました。
Kaguya-hime handed a letter to the old man.
かぐやひめは、「ありがとうございました」と言いいました。
Kaguya-hime said, “Thank you very much.”
かぐやひめは、月つきへかえりました。
Kaguya-hime went back to the moon.
おじいさんとおばあさんは、ずっと月つきを見みていました。
The old man and the old woman kept looking at the moon.
